When thinking about the "price" of college, it’s important to note that no student pays the full cost of a Rhodes education.
The amount the college incurs to educate a student is about $43,000, yet tuition is $30,342. In fact, when you look at the median institutional grant, fellowship, and scholarship aid awarded students - $11,500 - the net cost of a Rhodes education decreases to $18,842. In other words, the net price of a Rhodes education is about $24,150 (about 56%) less than the full cost Rhodes incurs when educating one student.
How can this be? Rhodes' endowment, made up of gifts from alumni, friends of the college, and foundations, supplements tuition, room, and board fees paid by families to make up the difference.
Our goal is to remove cost as the primary determining factor in whether or not you apply to Rhodes.
- Over 80% of our students receive some form of financial aid (fellowships/scholarships, grants, loans, work study)
- The average aid package of students with demonstrated need is over $28,561
- 51% of the Class of 2012 received four-year competitive scholarships, fellowships and awards

I need financial aid. Do I have to figure out what to apply for by myself?
We will guide you through the process of applying for financial aid. Our financial aid packages typically consist of a combination of fellowships or scholarships, grants, student loans and work-study jobs. You simply apply for aid and we will do our best to fulfill your demonstrated need.
I’ve heard of scholarships, but what are fellowships?
At Rhodes, we’ve taken traditional scholarships a step farther by asking students to invest in themselves through professional internships, community service, research or other requirements in exchange for financial assistance. In addition to funding, you’ll receive real-world experience that will put your education into action and build a resume.
